Kathy grew up in West Kennewick, next to what is now Lawrence Scott Park. Our grandparents and cousins lived all around us, so it was a fun-filled young life. Kathy was especially close to Grandma (Eliza) Bateman.
Her young years were spent with close friends and fun. She graduated KHS in 1971 and her life's journey began.
After attending stewardess school in Southern California, she decided to work at Hanford during its construction boom. She worked for various WPPSS contractors over this time period, ending her job career with Lampson International.
Her greatest joy in life was when her son, Taylor, was born in 1983. He was the light of her life; when he was around, her life was complete.
Although she lived her life locally, Kathy saw other parts of the world with trips to Europe, Taiwan, Hawaii and Alaska's North Slope. She and our sister, Jackie, enjoyed several trips in the western states and Canada with their sons when the boys were younger.
Kathy was our family historian and we are going to miss her knowledge of the long-time Bateman histories of Kennewick.
Her final years were spent at home. She was a longtime member of the Kennewick Eagles and had a lot of fun playing darts with her good friends, Jerry and Jimmy.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jackie. She is survived by her son, Taylor of Seattle; sisters Connie Morby (Chuck) of Kennewick and Diane Bateman (Rudy) of Bellingham. She is also survived by nephews and nieces that she thought the world of: The Morby's – Mike, Chad (Wendy), Dan (Amy), Matt (Rachel), and Jennifer Woods (Levi); Chris Bateman, Sophie and Robbie Cortez; five great-nieces and seven great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at First Lutheran Church (Hwy 395 & Yelm) in Kennewick.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Association, Arthritis Association or Diabetes Association of your choice.
