Walter D. Connor, 86 of 202 Greenway St., died Tuesday at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Minnie Kohler Connor.
Mr. Connor was born in New Haven, Oct. 29, 1897, son of the late Walter J. and Eva Donnelly Connor, and lived in Hamden for many years.
He was a Hamden town clerk for 20 years until his retirement, and also was a former director of the Hamden Veterans Center for 30 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War 1; a past commander of the American Legion Post No. 88 of Hamden (1944-1945), and past president of the Hamden Chamber of Commerce.
He leaves a daughter, Joan Rinne of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; a son, Donald S. Connor of Whittier, Calif.; a sister Martha Belmont of West Haven, and 11 grandchildren.
A mass Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Rita's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. The Beecher & Bennett funeral home, 2300 Whitney Ave. Hamden, is in charge of arrangements.
