Born in Manhattan, New York, Dan was a grandchild of Irish, German, and Austrian immigrants. He was the youngest of six children born to Augusta Reinhardt and Thomas Donohue.

Dan lived in New York and Pennsylvania until he joined the Air force in 1947. While in the service, he traveled through all of the states in America, with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii. After four years of service, he settled in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

In 1951, Dan and wife Roseanna celebrated the birth of their daughter, Diane.

In the late 1960s Dan met his soulmate and life partner, Geraldine "Jerry" Adams.

From 1976 to 1982, Dan and his family lived in Saint Mary Parish, Louisiana. During these years, Dan enjoyed his position at Triple H Welding as a skilled sandblaster and painter.

In 1982, the Donohue family moved back to Saint Petersburg, where Dan worked as a security guard.

Dan was a great father. We loved him dearly, and we miss him so.

"People will not look forward to posterity who never look backward to their ancestors" -- James Barnwell Heyward
