Warren grew up in Glade Spring, Va, the 11th child of 12 born to Samuel Andrew Sullins McClure and Maude Durilda (Blevins) McClure. After High School, he went to live and work for a short time with his sister and family on a dairy farm in Baltimore, MD.
As war with Germany broke out, he enlisted in the Army in October of 1940, and was transferred to Hickham Field in Hawaii in Dec. of 1940. He was a Crew Chief on B-25's, and was one of only two men in his squadron to survive when the Japanese attacked on 7 Dec., 1941.
Warren spent the next four years in the Pacific theater, serving in the Central Pacific, New Guinea, and the East Indies. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon, and the American Defense Service Medal w/bronze star.
He was transferred back to the United States in late 1945, to serve at Moore Field in Mission, TX - supporting the navigator school at the Harlingen Army Air Field.
Discharged on the 12th of Sept. of 1945, he briefly returned to Glade Spring, VA - and then moved to the Rio Grande Valley of TX, married Gloria, and eventually became a respected realtor and owner of the Harlingen Realty Company.
