A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Mitchell and Minnie Rogers Sluder. He was preceded in death by his son Allen Floyd Sluder and his wife Catherine Shelton Sluder, who died in November 1996.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW Post 891 and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Brown and Joyce Woodard of Asheville; sisters, Annie Fender of Oteen, Zinnie Bridges of Alexander, Bertha Shelton of Asheville, Willa Mae Silver of Leicester; two brothers, Kenneth Sluder of Alexander, William Sluder of Leicester; two grandchildren, Donald Woods of Candler, Shirlene Brown of Asheville; and a great granddaughter, Sarah Woods of Candler.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
