Professional Football Player. For four seasons (1944 to 1947), he played at the center position in the National Football League and the All-America Football Conference with the Cleveland Rams and Cleveland Browns. He attended Duquesne High School in Pennsylvania and served with the United States Army (he was stationed in North Africa) during World War II, prior to playing collegiate football at Waynesburg University (Pennsylvania). Signed by the Rams as a non-drafted player in 1944, he experienced a world championship the following seasons (1945) as Cleveland captured the NFL Title. In 1946, he joined the Cleveland Browns coached by Paul Brown in the newly-formed All-America Football Conference and was a contributor to two championship squads (1946 and 1947), as he played center to Otto Graham. After retiring as a player, he began a lengthy career as an assistant coach initially at the collegiate. He returned to the NFL as an assistant and scout with the Washington Redskins (1966 to 1969) and from 1970 to 1985, he served as the defensive line coach under Don Shula with the Miami Dolphins. During that period, Scarry was a contributor to five Dolphins' teams that reached the Super Bowl including two Super Bowl champion squads (1972 perfect 17-0 team and 1973).
