C. Marlin Shope, DDS, 78, of 309 First Street, Mt. Gretna, PA, died Monday, October 20, 2003 at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon.

Born on June 3, 1925 in Middletown, PA, to the late Errol F. and Olivia Stengel Shope.

He was the widower of Trude "Snooky" Cooper Shope.

He retired as a Children's Dentist, practicing in the Middletown, Lancaster and Camp Hill areas; he also practiced at the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a POW who received the Purple Heart and 3 Battle Stars; he fought in the Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland Campaigns, which is where he was captured.

He was a 50 year member of Mt. Gretna United Methodist Church, where he was an active Choir member and sang with the Wing and a Prayer Musical Group; he played the trumpet and was in the Marching Band during his High School years; a graduate of Middletown Area High School; graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, Class of 1948; Temple Dental School, graduate of 1952; and Psi Omega Fraternity.

He had a passion for horses, he was a member of the Quentin Riding Club, the Mt. Gretna Men's Club for Tennis, the Mt. Gretna Rotary Club and he also enjoyed skiing and baking.

Surviving are a daughter, Marla; son, Mark; a brother, Errol ; 2 grandchildren, Jonathan and Alisa and a nephew, David.
