When George Baier died about 1893 from a chronic infection acquired during his service in the Civil War, Mary and her family moved to Tucson, Arizona, and then later to Bakersfield, California. She died 11 May 1933, in Kern Co., California, and was buried in the Union Cemetery in Bakersfield, Kern Co., California, where many others in her family were also buried.
