Deerfield - Richard Hawthorne, 71, of 340 North Main St., South Deerfield, a retired auto mechanic at the former Northfield Motors, died Monday in Holyoke Soldiers Home. Born in Amherst, he had lived in South Deerfield most of his life, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a communicant of St. James Church, and a member of Polish American Citizens Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Hale Clapp Post 3295. His wife, the former Ann Deskavich, died in 1984. He leaves a sister, Margaret Hawthorne of Southbridge. The funeral will be Thursday morning at Wrisley Funeral Home and in the church with burial in Brookside Cemetery.
