Victor G. Barnes, Sr., age 87, a 70 year resident of Colorado Springs passed away on July 10, 2007 at the State Veterans Home in Florence, CO. He was born February 2, 1920 to Daniel and Flossie (Gregg) Barnes at the family home near Cheyenne Wells, CO. He was a graduate of Penrose High School. After school he was a partner in his family grocery store in Colorado Springs where he met and married Anita A. Walker in 1940. He served in the South Pacific with the Seabees in WWII. After the war he served in the US Navy Reserve until his retirement in 1980. He was a civilian employee of the Air Force retiring as the Commissary Officer of Peterson Air Force Base in 1978. After retiring from civil service he continued to work at High Valley Farms for many years. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Walker Barnes.
