Mary G. (Gibbons) Flynn, 82, of Bellingham, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 2, 2012 with her loving family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Flynn, former Bellingham High School educator and coach, who lifted Bellingham High School athletics from near obscurity to the top of its basketball and baseball divisions.
Mary was born in Millville, MA on June 7, 1930, the daughter of the late James and Alice (Trainor) Gibbons.
She was the loving mother of Mary Jane Fiorenzano of North Scituate, RI, Francis J. Flynn, Jr. and his wife Susan of Chepachet, RI, Cathe Flynn-McBride and her husband George of Phoenix, AZ, James G. Flynn and his wife Marianne of Scituate, RI, Alison M. Flynn of Bernallio, New Mexico, Michael P. Flynn of Bellingham, MA and devoted to her 12 grandchildren.
She was the sister of Alice Provost of Bellingham, MA.
A longtime resident of Bellingham, she was formerly of Millville, MA and spent her summers in Narragansett, RI. Mary was a librarian at Blackstone Millville Regional High School for many years, retiring in 1995. She was a voracious reader and a passionate fan of the Boston Celtics and the UCONN Lady Huskies. An avid lover of the Southwest, she visited her daughters in Arizona and New Mexico frequently. Her greatest joy however, was spending her summers at Sand Hill Cove with her family.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 9:00AM from CARTIERS FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Blaise Church, 1158 So. Main St. Bellingham.
Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Farm St., Blackstone.
Visiting hours are on Friday, September 7th from 5 to 8PM at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute via the Pan Mass Challenge.
