A loving husband, father and grandfather, he died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at his home in Summerfield near Port Vincent. He was 72 and a native of Shreveport. He was a 1951 graduate of LSU and received a doctorate in agricultural economics at Iowa State University in 1958. He taught in the agricultural department of LSU for 34 years before his retirement. While at LSU, he was a faculty adviser to Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. While serving his country in the U.S. Army, he was assigned to Germany for three years. He was a member of Monsignor Arthur Lieux Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus 2052 and a past Grand Knight of Blessed Eugene Council 6753. He was a longtime organist for St. Joseph Catholic Church in French Settlement, previously having served as an organist at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge. He was a dance instructor and president of the Amite River Cloggers and Foxy Trotters Line Dancers, as well as a longtime member of LeClog. He organized performances at church fairs and nursing homes. Survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Mary Marcy Fielder of Summerfield; a son, Michael Dan Fielder of St. Amant; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Fielder of St. Amant; two grandchildren, Brittany and Dylan Stafford; a sister and brother-in-law, Dora and Tom Ledbetter of Woodlands, Texas,; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Wilson and Marcia Marcy of Buffalo, N.Y., and Sally Williams of Roanoke, Va.; nieces, nephews and numerous wonderful friends and dancers. Preceded in death by his father, L.L. Fielder Sr.; mother, Tracy Bennett Fielder; and stepmother, Mary Fielder. Visiting was at St. Joseph Catholic Church, French Settlement, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation at the church from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, celebrated by the Rev. James Kincaid and Deacon Jimmy Little. Interment in church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonathan DeLaune, Coby Braud, Butch Porche, Chad Porche, Rock Smith and Odrie Ortego. Honorary pallbearers are Dylan Stafford and Michael Fielder.
