George Hart was the first son of William and Mary (Bright) Hart, of England, and possible twin to sister Mary Ann. The William Hart family emigrated from England to Ontario, Canada before 1851, when William and Mary appear in the 1851 and 1861 Canada Censuses in Seymour, Northumberland County, Ontario.

George's younger brother, John A Hart, emigrated from Canada to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Sault Ste. Marie) in 1880 with his family; George apparently followed a few years later with his. The brothers probably made this decision based on the Michigan Land Grant program of the 1880s, but their parents and siblings seem to have remained in Canada or were already deceased.

GEORGE'S SIBLINGS:
1-Emma Eleanor (or J?) Hart (1837–1911) m. Absalom Brown, no. ch.
2-Mary Ann Hart (1841–?) possible twin sister?
3-John A. Hart (1843–1899) m. Sarah Robinson, 3 ch.
4-Sarah Hart (1849–?) may have remained in Canada
5-Susan Hart (1854–?) may have remained in Canada
6-Edgar Hart (1858–1886) may have remained in Canada

George married Anna "Annie" Elizabeth Middaugh (Meadows), daughter of Adam & Catharine (Splitorf) Middaugh of Germany, on 09 Feb 1870 in Durham, Grey Co., Ontario. They had nine children, the first six born in Greenock, Bruce Co., Ontario, Canada and the youngest three born in/near Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa, Michigan, USA.

GEORGE & ANNIE'S CHILDREN:
1-William A Hart (1871-1959) m. Georgina Marie Flewelling (13 ch.)
2-John Hart (1873-1945) m. Elsie Mae Vickery (6 ch.)
3-Annie Hart (1876-?) last record found, 1881 Greenock, Bruce, Ontario, Canada with her family, age 5
4-Mary Hart (c. 1877-?)
5-Mina "Minnie" Hart (1879–) m. 1st John Lytle (2 ch); m. 2nd Charlie Lalone
6-Sarah Jane Hart (1882–1922) m. George Isaac Hart, Sr. (her 1st cousin, son of her uncle John A Hart), 9 ch.
3-Carrie May Hart (1886-1936) m. William Arthur Letson, 7 ch.
4-Estella Hart (1889-) m. 1st Isaac Pardee, 4 ch.; m. 2nd R.J. Willis; m. 3rd William E. Carpenter; m. 4th Archie Joseph Mero
5-Thomas Hart (1893-?)

George emigrated to U.S. between about 1883, based on U.S. Census records and births of children. Sarah Jane (b. 1882) arrived in Canada, while Carrie appears to have been born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI in 1886).

After Annie's 1899 death, George married his brother's recently widowed wife, Sarah Robinson Hart. She helped raise George and Annie's children.
