EDWARD A. GRAHAM
The entire community was shocked on Tuesday morning, July 2nd when word was phoned into town of the sudden death of Edward A. Graham that occured at his home northwest of town. It seems that Mr. Graham was anxious to get to town and had arisen early and after partaking of a hearty breakfast went out to get his auto and found one tire down, so he took the hand pump and pumped up the tire which no doubt brought on the fatal attack. He had been examined and informed that his heart action was bad and that he must be careful, but they boys had gone to the field and he was anxious to come into town to do some business. He went from the garage to the house and lay down on a couch on the porch and quietly passed.
The funeral was held from St. Patrick's church here on July 5th attended by a long line of relatives and friends. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
The pall-bearers were: J.B. Donohoe, Charles Naughton, Henry Cook, J.F. Gallagher and C.E. Stout.
Edward A. Graham was born at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Jule 1, 1867, and was aged 61 years, 1 month and 1day.
He came here from Wisconsin in 1877 and has since made this his home. On September 1, 1892, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Heenan, at this place. To them were born eleven children and those living are:
Morris J., O'Neill; Mrs. C.C. Jackson, Yuba City, California; Edward, Whittier, California; Mrs. J.B. Shuster, Omaha; Mrs. Lloyd Ritts and Harry, Gertrude, Gerald and Charles of this city, who together with his devoted wife, and two brothers, George and John, and sister, Mrs. Frank Corcoran, survive and mourn for him.
Edward A. Graham was one of our oldest and best beloved citizens. He has been identified with our early history as well as that of the present time. He came here as a boy, and was one of the younger set of our oldest settlers in Holt county. Everybody knew Ed well enough to call him by his given name, and he was loved and respected for his genial disposition and kindly ways. His door was always open and no one was ever sent empty handed from his home. No wonder he was a favorite both with his family and with the public. in the death of Mr. Graham, Holt county loses one of its finest citizens. His neighblors all speak in the highest terms and no man has lived in vain who held the utmost respect of his neighbors , as Mr. Graham surely did.
