Paul Banta Sr., 85 of Boise, passed away on November 24, 2005, with his best friend, his dog Nicky, and his family by his side. Paul was born February20, 1920 to Carrie and Francis Banta in Salem, Oregon. Paul moved from Albany, Oregon to Boise, Idaho in 1967 and was Sales Manager, and then General Manager for Norm Bishop Volkswagen until his retirement in 1990. Paul was a World War II veteran and served his country as a flight instructor. After leaving the Army Air Corp., Paul worked in the oil industry working fore J. Paul Getty Oil in Kuwait and served as the Production Chief of the Chilean Oil Company in South America. Paul was a life member of the Elks and served as the Post Commander of the American Legion in Independence, Oregon. Paul traveled the world, seeing much of Europe, the Middle East, Mexico and South America. Paul had retired and previously lived in Yuma, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Rosalie, in 1996. Paul then traveled the western states from Washington to Arizona with his faithful companion Nicky until settling in Boise a second time in 1998. Paul loved the outdoors and hunted and fished whenever he could. Paul enjoyed times with his friends and family telling stories of his travels, hunting and fishing. To pass the time, he loved to pay cribbage, keeping score in a notebook of the games won and lost. Paul was ahead when he left us and living life to its fullest, west as a winner. Any man can be a Father, but it takes a very special person to be a true Dad and friend. Paul is survived by and will be greatly missed by his children; Jesslyn Moyer and her husband Perry of Grants Pass, Oregon, Roberta Pearson of Bakersfield, California, Bob Banta, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Boise Idaho, and Rebecca Mickelsen and her husband Mark of West Jordan, Utah, his niece Bette Lou Jennings of Boise, Idaho, 12 grand children, 18 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Saint Alphonsus Hospital for their care during Dad's stay at their facility and also thank Four Rivers Hospice for their assistance and care.
