Jeannette "Jan" Baxter, 78, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, in Fort Worth.

Graveside service: 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Jeannette "Jan" Baxter was born July 3, 1923, in Thibodaux, La., to Fulbert Champagne and Elvine Pitre Champagne. She married Murrell J. Baxter on Dec. 31, 1944, in New Orleans, La. Jan worked for U.S. Navy in Houma, La., during World War II as a switchboard operator and later worked for Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., before moving to Fort Worth in 1957.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Murrell J. Baxter, who died in 1997.

Survivors: Daughter, Rebecca D. Veteikis and husband, John C.; son, John L. Baxter; grandchildren, Jennifer Thompson and husband, Joseph, David Veteikis and wife, Adrian, and Richard Veteikis and wife, Suzanne; great-grandchildren, William, Robert and Katherine Thompson; aunt, Olga Romine; sisters, Penny Nix and Lois Makuch and husband, Moose; and some very dear friends and neighbors.
