Funeral services for Mrs. Birdie Allen, 69 years of age, were held Tuesday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Methodist Church with the Rev. D.L. Druien and Rev. Willard Collins in charge of the services. Burial was in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were Paul Witham, Alonza Sapp, Melvin Wise, Bob Witham, John Calhoun and Robert Waggoner. Flower girls were wives of the pallbearers. Mrs. Allen, daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson & Sarah Elizabeth Allen Arvin, was born March 20, 1883 in Taylor Co., KY. She died May 4, [1952] at 9 a.m. at her home near Smith's Chapel after several months' illness. She was a member of the Mt. Washington Baptist Church. She united in marriage to John David Allen, who preceded her in death in 1944. She is survived by 1 son, Otha Allen, Route 1, Spurlington; 1 daughter, Mrs. Flora Bright of Snyder, TX; 1 sister, Mrs. Herbert Morris of Campbellsville; 2 brothers, E.T. Arvin of Adair, IL and R.E. Arvin of Kingman, IN; and many other relatives and friends.
