Sherry Lyn Barnes (64) passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012, with her family by her side.
She was born December 19, 1947, in Houston, Texas and moved to California when she was 11 years old. She was a resident of Ventura County for 53 years.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Michael Barnes; son, Jeffrey Barnes; son, Gregory Barnes (wife Rosalinda); daughter, Jennifer Barnes; her grandchildren, Gregory and Lucas Barnes; her sister, Gayle Schrum (husband Jerry); her brother, Steve Benefield (wife Denise); and her nieces, Beth, Kristina, Paige and Taylor, nephews, Scott, Eric and Brian, and many great-nephews and nieces, cousins and friends. Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Nadine Benefield, father, Woodrow Benefield and brother, Ross Williamson.
Sherry worked at Camarillo State Hospital for 25 years as a licensed psychiatric technician, and after the hospital closed she worked the next five years for Ventura County Mental Health. Sherry and her husband have been retired for the last eight plus years.
Sherry enjoyed painting, especially attending painting classes with her sister Gayle, traveling with her husband, camping with family and friends, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was the heart and soul of our family. She enjoyed family BBQ's and celebrating the holidays with her family and friends. She especially loved Christmas.
