Cyrus Morton Hatch was born in Maine on Sept 16, 1829.
He was mustered into Company D on April 29, 1861.
He was listed as being 28 years old, but was actually 31.
He was shot in the hip at Antietam. Family oral history has it that he laid in a ditch for three days before he was rescued and that he put a plug of chewing tobacco in the wound to stop the bleeding. He survived but walked with a limp for the rest of his life. As a result of his wound Cyrus was discharged for disability on December 5, 1862.
On May 27, 1865, Cyrus married Frances Anne Osgood at Sheepscott Bridge in New Castle, Maine.
In 1868, they moved and traveled by covered wagon to San Jose in Santa Clara County, California.
Cyrus was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.
The 1910 roster of the surviving veterans of the First Minnesota states that he died on June 19, 1910, at the Soldiers Home in Sawtelle, Los Angeles County, California. He would have been 80 years old at the time of his death.
His wife was the informant on his death certificate providing his occupation of carpenter, that his father's name was David Hatch, that her husband had lived at 720 E Ave 60, Hermon, Los Angeles County for the last 3 months of his life but had been in California for 40 years. Buried on 21 Jun 1910
