PERU - James F. Townsend, 82, of 656 Jefferson Ave., died at 7:41 a.m. Sunday in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Born March 31, 1910, in Peru, he was the son of Charles and Rosetta Chambers Townsend. On June 3,1931, he was married to Evelyn C. Sutton, who died Sept: 9,1992. A lifelong resident of Peru, Mr. Townsend was a retired general contractor. Surviving are five daughters, Ruth Sopher, Barbara Townsend, Judy Sutton, Susie Depoy, and Cathy Drake, all of Peru; four sons, Frank and Donnie, both of Denver, and Joe and Jim, both of Peru; one sister, Amy Sutton, Peru; two brothers, Darrell and John, both of Peru; 24 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Baines officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Denver. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
