Funeral services were held Dec. 9, at St. Cecilia Church, Thiensville, for Gertrude (nee Blommer) Backes a former Mequon resident. She died Dec. 5 at the age of 85. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery.
Mrs. Backes is the wife of William P. Backes, the mother of Dorothy (Charles) Pfannerstill, Mary Jane Megow, Robert A. (Lorna) and Daniel H. (Doris) Backes. She is survived by 28 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Grelinger.
Mrs. Backes was a member of St. Cecelia Church, the Christian Mothers Altar Sodality, the Senior Parishioners of St. Cecilia, the Mission Circle, Third Order of St. Francis, Legion of Mary Auxiliary, Apostolate of the Suffering and the Howard J. Schroeder Legion Auxiliary.
