Funeral services for Ward C. Crumb, 79, pioneer Rockford lumber dealer who died of a heart attack at his home in Ames, Iowas, were held last night at First Baptist church in Ames. The body will be sent to Rockford for burial at 5:15 p.m. today at Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Crumb's death followed by a day that of his brother, Haskell A. Crumb, 86, of Rockford, who succumbed Friday night following a stroke suffered earlier in the week.
Ward C. Crumb was born January 26. 1863, in Unadilla, New York, and came to Rockford from Chicago in the 1880's. He was associated with his father, the late R. W. Crumb, and his brother in the lumber business at 7th street and Railroad avenue, present site of the Chicago and North Western railroad depot. The firm was taken over by the brothers following their father's death and was sold about 30 years ago when Haskell Crumb retired.
Mr. Crumb married Nellie Bennett in Belvidere September 23, 1885. His wife died in 1935. Since 1933 Mr. Crumb resided at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. S. Jackson, in Ames. Surviving besides the daughter are a son, Kittridge Crumb, Basking Ridge, New Jersy, a grandson, Charlews Jackson of Steubenville, Ohio; a nephew Arthur R. Crumb, 10212 North Court street, and a niece, Frances C. Crumb, Newfane, Vermont.
