Charles was first married to Lillie Wallace, who died in 1952. In 1954, he married Virginia Wood Alexander. Retired phosphate mine supervisor with the Tennessee Valley Authority. During World War II, he served as the 24th Naval Construction Battalion and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received on Rendova Island. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and several other organizations including the Maury County Historical Society. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Alexander and William D. Alexander; and a sister, Ruby Chandler.
