Obituary
All Hammon and this editor, especially was deeply pained last Thursday when the news was spread about town that one of the old-time, highly respected citizens of this section, J.Q. Turner had been summoned on that call. Mr. Turner had been sick only a short time and it had only been about ten days since he was on the street enjoying the greetings of his friends. He was taken seriously two weeks ago last Saturday and was for a time at the home of his son, Houston, and it was thought that he was on the road to recovery, but on his return to his home a second attack came from which he'd never recovered.

John Quincy Turner was born in Mississippi May 28, 1848 and went to Louisiana with his parents when small and grew to manhood there. He grew up in the Methodist faith and always lived a conscientious Christian life. His death came as a sad calamity to his family May 17, 1928 his age being 79 years, 11 months and 19 days. He was married to Miss Gertrude Morris Feb. 18, 1878, and to this union nine children were born, all of whom, with the devoted mother survive him. The children are five boys and four girls, as follows: Mrs. W.R. Hill, Velma, OK; Mrs. J.T. Morris, Vernon, Texas; Tom, Doss and Clint, Hammon; Mrs. R.F. Deason, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. P.J. Morton, Herring, OK; Newt and Houston of Hammon.

The tender care of his wife and children were a great solace and comfort in his last illness.

Other relatives surviving him are 38 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. J.T. Wimberly of Silverton, Texas; two brothers, Elias Turner of Silverton, Texas; C.C. Turner of Lampas County, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral occurred at the Methodist Church, where his old-time friend and neighbor, Commissioner R.M. Trent said the last words over his remains. The capacity of the church was taxed to care for the large concourse of relatives and friends who came to pay the last tribute to his memory. Interment was made in the Red Hill Cemetery where he was gently laid to peacefully await the resurrection.
