Mrs. Mary Ella Hughes Perkins, 89, of Maryfield Nursing Home, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at High Point Regional Hospital.


Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. The Rev. Pat Cronin will officiate. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.


She was born on May 2, 1915, in Wilmington, Va., to the late John Samuel Hughes and Mary Ella Perkins Hughes. Mrs. Perkins was a retired nurse. She was a very active member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by one sister, six brothers and a son-in-law, Michael Schenker.


Surviving are one daughter, Carol Schenker of Jamestown; two sons, Jim Perkins and wife Elizabeth of Marietta, Ga., and Frank Perkins and wife Anne Weeks-Perkins of Honolulu, Hawaii; six grandchildren, Daniel James Perkins, Matthew David Perkins, Christopher Alan Schenker, Jennifer Anne Schenker, Jonah Frank Perkins and Noah Kenneth Perkins.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 West Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410.
