Private First Class Len Earl Carr was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army Selective Service and a Draftee, PFC Carr served our country until February 17th, 1966 in Binh Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 22 years old and was not married. It was reported that Len died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Len was born on August 31st, 1943 in the Carolina Township of Pitt County NC. PFC Carr is on panel 05E, line 041 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.
We the men who served with Charlie Company, 2/5, Cavalry First Cavalry Division, have started our Gold Star Families' project. We are attempting to contact family members of our brothers who gave their lives in service to this country. We want to welcome them into our brotherhood and render unto them the honor they deserve. He was the son of Mr Major Bernard Carr Sr and Mrs Verna Mae Purvis Carr of PO Box 657, Robersonville, NC. Brother to Major Bernard Carr Jr, Marilyn Carr and Essie R Carr.
He served with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division, USARV.
He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat wounds, The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
