She was born May 18, 1930 in Boone to Lester and Lucy Baker Carroll and was the wife of Charles H. Blackburn, Jr.
Ann was a retired college professor from ASU who attended Appalachian High School and graduated in 1947. She earned a BS degree from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1951, majoring in business education and physical education. In 1958 Ann received a year of post-graduate credit. She received her appointment to the Appalachian faculty in 1956 and retired as an associate professor in 1984. While at the university, she was active in sponsoring workshops and seminars, served on committees for the State Department of Public Instruction, worked as a teacher education intern, supervised graduate teaching assistants and student administration and education departments, obtained a Ford Venture Grant to improve instruction, participated in a follow-up study of Appalachian's business education graduates, and served on numerous university and departmental committees.
She was affiliated with the NBEA, NCBEA, NCVEA, Boone Chamber of Commerce, Betta Gamma Sigma, Pi Omega Pi, and was listed in Personalities of the South. Ann was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Trust Officer, and on numerous committees. She served on the boards of First Citizens Bank, Watauga County Public Library, and the Regional Library Board.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Charles H. Blackburn, Jr.; one son, one daughter, five grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, one great-grandson and one step-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Ray Kent Carroll.
At Ann's request, graveside services will be private.
