George Phillips was the son of John George Phillips and Emily Rosella Sager Phillips.

George married Lydia Ann Ross on May 16, 1907 at Cincinnati, Appanoose County, Iowa. The family lived for several years in the Putnam County, Missouri area and also Appanoose County in Iowa. In later years some moved to Saline County, Kansas.

They had eight children:
