Lula Mae Bonner Slaughter, a civic leader and widow of former University Park Mayor Albert Lloyd Slaughter, died Monday at her Dallas home. She was 95.
Services for Mrs. Slaughter will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. A private entombment will follow at Hillcrest Mausoleum.
Mrs. Slaughter was a trustee of Austin College in Sherman, a member of the board of directors of the metropolitan YMCA, past president of the Dallas Council of World Affairs and an officer of Dallas Bankers Wives.
Born in Arkansas, she was reared in Whitesboro and Sherman. In 1916, she joined the Navy and served in Washington under Franklin Roosevelt, then assistant secretary of the Navy, said her daughter Gloria Hammack of Highland Park.
Mrs. Slaughter was an active member of Highland Park
Presbyterian Church for 60 years.
Her husband was a banker and independent oilman.
In addition to Ms. Hammack, survivors include another daughter, Betty Lu Williams of Highland Park, and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Dallas Woman's Club Scholarship Committee or any charity.
