Nancy J. Davis was born in Brunswick, Indiana, June 24th, 1846. During her early years of childhood, she joined with her father and mother in worship in the Methodist church at that place. She was married to N.J. Sicks, May 1, 1862, and to this union four children were born: Lee L. Sicks, Alice A. Ross, both of Cambridge, Ora Sicks of Thorntown, Indiana, and Rosetta Sicks deceased.

March 9th, 1885, she married John W. Black, who died April 1, 1920. To this union one child was born, Daisy May, who passed away in infancy.

Mrs. Black passed from this life to the life beyond at her home in Cambridge, Kansas, Friday morning, Dec. 7th, 1923, at 10 o'clock a.m., aged 77 years, 5 months and 13 days. For 30 years she has been afflicted with chronic diseases, but not seriously until the last two weeks. The former affliction, coupled with leakage of the heart and old age, was the immediate cause of her departure. This she bore very bravely and was conscious that the end was near at hand. She was patient during her severe weary illness exceedingly appreciative of everything that was done for her. She loved her son Lee and daughter Alice very ardently. These two children remained at her bedside and did everything in their power to make her last days as soothing for her as possible. It was a ministry of love and affection genuinely reciprocated.

By her death the children lose the love of a true and devoted mother; the community one who was always ready to lend a helping hand in time of trouble and sorrow. The community join with the bereaved in this their sad affliction and extend to them their heartfelt sorrow. - Winfield Free Press.

The funeral service was conducted at the family residence Saturday afternoon at 2:30 by the Rev. W.C. Templeton, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Winfield in the midst of a houseful of sympathizing neighbors and friends. Interment was made in the Cambridge cemetery.
