Evelyn was a native of Clay County, North Carolina and the daughter of the late Wayne Thomas and Willa Mae Branch Brooks. Evelyn was a retired LPN with Mountain Home Nursing Service. She had worked many years in local hospitals including Towns County,GA , Union County, GA and Murphy North Carolina Medical Center. She loved flowers and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Chastain and brother, George Albert Brooks. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Janelle Houser and husband Ken of Hayesville, NC and Renee Chastain Deweese and husband Bob of Murphy, NC; one son, Dennis Wayne Chastain of Hayesville,NC and daughter-in-law, Teresa Smart Chastain; two sisters, Ruth Garrett of Lowell, NC and Alwayne Giles of Turlock, Calif, and one half-sister Linda Ann McCray of Hayesville, NC; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday Aug 5, at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Hayesville, NC. Rev, Hoyt Brown officiated.Pallbearers were Casey Chastain, Mark Ledford, Eric Rivera, Bob Deweese, Lynn Waldroup and Chester Rowland. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Mountain Home Nursing Services.
