Granite Falls, NC- Mr. Perry "Buck" Bean, age 94, of the Baton Community died on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care following a brief illness. He was born in Caldwell County on November 5, 1917 to the late Bascom B. and Lettie Kaylor Bean.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wesley Bean, and two sisters, Lucille Bean and Hazel Brown.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Bolick Bean . They had been married 72 years. He is also survived by a son, Donald E. Bean and wife, Elizabeth "Betsy", and one grandson, Ronnie Bean, all of Charlottesville, VA. He is also survived by one brother, Jack Bean and wife, Helen of Clover, SC, and two sisters, Mildred Munday of the Baton Community, and Bennie Rector of Rutherford College.

He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II. Buck was a talented carpenter, brick mason,
an avid woodworker, gardener, and cook. He enjoyed entertaining friends and family. He was one of the original founders of the North Catawba Fire Department and an original charter member of the Baton Ruritan Club. He was an active member of Hudson United Methodist Church and the Hudson United Methodist Men's Club.

A celebration of Mr. Bean's life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 2:00 with Reverend Tim Brittain and Reverend Ed Warren officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.

The family extends special thanks to the many family, friends and church members who visited and provided love and support. He also had two special and faithful caregivers, Mary Powell and Donna Hamby.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to: Caldwell Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
