~ Married to Paul Edward Duncan - May 31, 1954 ~

WE MISS YOU SO MUCH MOM - YOU ARE THE BEST MOM ANY TWO GIRLS COULD ASK FOR...
~ 1953: While in Korea, Paul wrote to the Courier Journal (a newspaper in Lousiville, KY) asking for pen pals to write to a group of "lonely Marines stationed in Korea". Marqua answered his letter in February 1953 and wrote to him until his return to the US in November 1953.
~ 1954 May 30: They were married in New Washington, IN, and October 1954 they packed up their car with all their belongings, and with $100 in their pockets moved to CA, when they arrived they had $35 left. They stayed with Marqua's brother, Fritz and his family for a couple of weeks, until Paul found a job, and then they moved to Bell, CA.
~ 1957 Mar 30: Sharon Elaine was born.
~ 1959 Jul 2: Sandra Marie was born.
~ 1985 Oct: Paul and Marqua moved to Sharon Grove, KY, where Marqua became interested in genealogy and researched the Cunningham family (her mother's family).
~ 1987: they returned to CA.
~ 1999: After retirement Paul and Marqua moved to Johnson City, TN in May.
~ 2002: Marqua had her Cunningham Famly "Leaves from the Family Tree" published (after many years of hard work).
~ 2010 Aug 23: Marqua was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer stage IV, and went through 1 round chemotherapy and surgery. As of Mar 2011 - she was still cancer free (I believe my moms strong faith and positive attitude was a huge part of her recovery). In May 2011, her cancer marker went up and the doctor didn't see any masses, but thought it best that she go through another round of chemo treatments.
~ 2011 Dec 3 (Saturday): Paul suddenly passed away from ventricular fribulation - Marqua was unable to see him before he passed since she had a chemo treatment on 2011 Dec 1, and she was not able to go to the hospital.
~ 2012 Feb: Marqua's cancer marker was 17 - So she decided that she wanted to move to California to be close to her grandkids and sister, Nancy, and my sister (her daughter, Sharon).
~ 2012 Mar: We packed up mom and she moved to California, spent some time in Las Vegas with her grandson Stephen, and his family, and also got to visit with her other grandson, Samuel.
~ 2012 Apr: She moved in with her sister, Nancy, and continued to "not feel good" - her cancer marker started to go up, and up. They eventually drained 1-1/2 litres of fluid from around her lungs, and then a few weeks later drained about 3 litres - they said it was full of cancer cells. She swelled up from the fluid and eventually succomed to the cancer. She fought hard, and always had a positive attitude - she told us that she was "ready".
~ 2012 Aug: Marqua had her family around her when she passed peacefully. (sister Nancy, daughters, Sharon and Sandi, grandchildren: Joshua, Stephanie and Samantha - her other 2 grandchildren (Stephen and Samuel), could not make it due to job obligations and living in Nevada. Many family members came to visit before she passed - she was loved by so many.
~ Marqua's hobbies included crocheting, reading, and genealogy. At the time of her passing, she was working on several families (Cunningham, Petzold, Standish, and Wood - these are on her mother's side), she continued to work on the Cunningham family. She was also working on the Petzold familiy (her father's side), Duncan, Wilkins and McBride (Paul's family).
~ Marqua passed away after a long battle with Ovarian Cancer.
