Fred L. Charland, 59, passed away in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, in the Priest River Trinity Baptist Church. Pastor Shawn Palaniuk will be officiating.

Fred was born on June 28, 1950, in Kalispell, Mont., the son of Archie and Ruby (Hoadley) Charland. He lived in Bremerton, Wash.; Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and Kalispell, Mont., prior to moving to Priest River, Idaho. He worked as a city policeman in Priest River, a deputy sheriff in Bonner County, with the emergency medical technician program, and was active in Search and Rescue. He retired early, due to health issues.

He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Priest River and was past president of the Priest River Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed leather crafting and working with his model trains.

He is survived by four children, John Charland of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Jason Charland of Spokane, Wash., Becky Bond of West Richland, Wash., and Jeremy Charland in West Virginia; his brother, Steve Charland of Kalispell; numerous grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
