She was born in Grant County to the late William B. and Sarah E. (Simon) Nelson and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. She was the youngest of 10 children and was preceded in death by seven brothers; and two sisters. She was a graduate of Marion High School. She was married to Lawrence Atkins for 55 years; he died Sept. 10, 1991.
Mrs. Atkins attended Grace United Methodist Church, Marion, and was a member of Eastern Star. She was a volunteer at Marion General Hospital for 23 years and was a Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Lee Chalk, St. Petersburg; and grandsons Todd Chalk, Atlanta, Ga., and Derek (Stefanie) Chalk, Tampa, Fla.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Gardens of Memory cemetery, Huntington County, with the Rev. Donald Shanks officiating.
Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, handled arrangements.
