Marlene Ann Kokenge, 67, of Rossville, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012 surrounded by her family. Marlene was the first child born to Wayne and Creta (Lord) McMillan. She was born at Frankfort, Kansas and spent her elementary years in Frankfort and Blue Rapids, Kansas before moving with her family to Montrose, Colorado.

She graduated from Montrose High School.

She married Elmer Kokenge on January 12, 1963 at Seneca, Kansas. They raised three children.

Marlene worked as a cook for USD 321. She enjoyed reading, cooking for her family, flower gardening and decorating for the holidays.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Elmer; her three children, Deanna Schneider, Larry Kokenge and Chris Kokenge; her grandchildren, Deran Kokenge and Krista Bell; a great-grandchild, Holden Bell; and her siblings, Richard McMillan, Alan McMillan and Kathy Janz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Ken McMillan.

A simple memorial service and reception will be held Monday, August 20, 2012 from 11:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. at Parish Center, 701 Main St., Rossville, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Rd., Topeka, Kansas 66617.

The family will hold a private inurnment at Rossville Cemetery at a later date.
