Virginia 'Ginny' Ingraham, 93

YARMOUTH -- M. Virginia 'Ginny' Ingraham, 93, died peacefully on Oct. 26, 2010, following a stroke, at Brentwood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Yarmouth. She was born on Aug. 31, 1917, in Yarmouth to Harold B. and Martha C. Allen, and attended Yarmouth schools. She graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1936 and then Northeastern Business College of Portland. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for several years until meeting Raymond C. Ingraham early in 1943 at a USO dance. They married on Sept. 5, 1943, and settled in Roslindale, Mass., where their first son was born. They moved back to Yarmouth to help her parents at Allen's Variety Store and had three more children. After selling Avon and doing bookkeeping for local businesses for several years while the children were small, Virginia worked as the secretary at the new Yarmouth High School from its opening in 1961, at the rate of $1.25 per hour. From there she moved to the Superintendent's Office when Yarmouth Public Schools became a new school district in 1965. After retiring from the school department, Virginia continued to help out there and at the Yarmouth Historical Society and other local offices from time to time.
