Hepsibeth Smith was born February 24, 1821, the daughter of Thomas and Hepsibth (Piper) Smith in Rindge, NH. Hepsibeth married, May 13, 1841, Zachariah F. Whitney, the son of John and Sophia (Faulkner) Whitney. They lived in Peru, VT then moved to Rindge in 1856 where they resided ever after on the farm formerly occupied by Capt. Asa Brewer and before that by Capt. Joshua Walker. This farm was located on what is now the campus of Franklin Pierce University. Hepsibeth and Zachariah had seven children. She died February 19, 1901, aged 80 years.
