Zachariah F. Whitney was born April 15, 1816, the son of John and Sophia (Faulkner) Whitney. John and Sophia lived in Rindge, NH, Lunenburg, MA and Peru, VT. Zachariah married, May 13, 1841, Hepsibeth Smith, the daughter of Thomas and Hepsibeth (Piper) Smith of Rindge. Zachariah and Hepsibeth moved from Peru, VT to Rindge, NH in 1856 and ever after resided on the farm formerly occupied by Capt. Asa Brewer and before that by Capt. Joshua Walker. This farm was located on what is now the campus of Franklin Pierce University. Zachariah and Hepsibeth had seven children. He was a Rindge Selectman during the Civil War for the years 1861, 62 and 63. Hepsibeth died February 19, 1901. Zachariah died December 23, 1909, aged 85 years.
