He was possibly the Samuel baptized May 4,1600 at Saffron Walden, Co.Essex, the son of Benjamin and Mary Bass. Some sources have indicated he is the Samuel Bass, baptized at London on Aug 20,1598, son of Humphrey Bass and Mary (Bouchier) Bass.

He married Ann Saville (also spelled Savil, Savell in various records) on Apr 25,1625 at Saffron Waldon, Co.Essex, England.

Children: Samuel Bass Jr, Mary Bass Capen, John Bass, Hannah Bass Paine Wilbore, Thomas Bass, Joseph Bass, Ruth Bass Walesby, and Sarah Bass Stone Penniman.

Deacon Bass came to Roxbury about 1633. Names enrolled as members of the first church; made freeman May 14, 1634; moved to Braintree in 1640, was first deacon 50 yrs.

Was representative in 1641 and often later.
