Mr. Towery was born March 29, 1914, in Fannin County to James and Nora Towery and moved to Midland at age 15. George “Buddy” West presented the Towerys with a Texas flag that had flown over the State Capitol and read a resolution passed in the House and Senate recognizing them for their work in the ministry and long term marriage. Then-Gov. George W. Bush and first lady Laura sent a special greeting to the Towerys at their anniversary party, and the City of Odessa declared by proclamation, Feb. 7, 1998, as Alton and Edith Towery Day in Odessa.
