Suicide


Joseph Kirkbride Takes his Own Life.


Was a Civil War Veteran.


Liquor Supposed to be the Cause of the Rash Act the Deed Committed at his Home in North Benton

Word was received in this city this morning announcing that Joseph Kirkbride had committed suicide by cutting his throat, at his home in North Benton, at 11:00 o'clock Tuesday night. Deceased was a bachelor 65 years of age and was a veteran of the Civil War.

Two brothers, Watson and Mahlon, and a sister, Mrs. Nancy Morris, reside near North Benton. Mr. Kirkbride was a blacksmith but had not followed the trade for several years.


Ferdinand Kirkbride, who was killed by an A. and N. train at the Webb Street crossing about eighteen months ago, was a brother of the suicide. For some time the latter had been addicted to liquor and it is supposed that while intoxicated he committed the rash act.

The funeral of Joseph Kirkbride will be held at the residence of his brother, Watson Kirkbride, at North Benton, at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon.
