Burmeister, Walter E. 88, of Shelby and Holiday, Fla., passed away Friday, March 30, 2001 at New Port Richey Community Hospital in Florida.
He was born April 4, 1912 the son of Frank and Henrietta (Ladegast) Burmeister of Benona Township. He married the former Lucille Gifford July 2, 1937 at Little Point Sauble. He worked at Sealed Power and Continental Motors prior to becoming a fruit and asparagus grower. He retired from agriculture in 1974. Mr. Burmeister was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Oceana County Farm Bureau and a past board member of the Young School in Benona and the consolidated Benona School. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; a son, Dale (Judie) Burmeister of Shelby; his daughter, Sharon (James) Ward of Douglas, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Alan (Cathy) Burmeister of New Era, Tracey (Chris) Butler of Shelby, Jeffrey Ward of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lori Russell of Douglas, Wyo.; four great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Lyle (Pat) Burmeister of Hart; several nieces and nephews; and many friends here and in Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lester, and Elmer; two sisters, Eva Miles and Edna Montgomery.
