Motion Picture Executive, Film Producer, Film Pioneer. He started out his film career operating movie theatres with Marcus Loew, producing silent films at Vitagraph Studios where he met actress Norma Talmadge whom he'd soon marry. He produced a string of the silent comedies starring Buster Keaton during the 1920s. In 1933, he co-founded Twentieth Century Pictures, Inc. (20th Century Pictures) with Darryl F. Zanuck in 1932, which eventually became the major Hollywood film studio, 20th Century-Fox upon merging with William Fox's Fox Film Corporation in 1935. The chairman of United Artists, he created its theater chain. He was one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), received an Honorary Academy Award in 1952 and is honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6757 Hollywood Blvd.
