Obituary - Starke Co. Democrat, Knox, Indiana, dated May 12, 1893

Sunday morning at 2 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. William Bolen, aged about thirty-three years. She was taken ill Thursday and Dr. Wright was summoned. The case seemed a very peculiar one, and while the physician decided her trouble to be inflammation of the stomach and bowels, he was unable to get any control of the disease. Mortification began to work before death, and necessitated the burial of the remains Sunday at 2 o'clock - only twelve hours after death, in Knox cemetery. She leaves four children. The family reside on the old Bolen farm, three miles south-east of town.
******************************************************************************
NOTE by Gary Bolen - Mary Anna (Mariannie) Prater-Bolen died in Knox, Starke County. Death records was not recorded until 1894 for the county. At the cemetery in Knox, from the early days, records were destroyed by fire on the burial plots of individuals, therefore, the only thing that was available is the obituary. It is believed that she could be buried in the Crown Hill cemetery which was in existence since 1850. A daughter, Amy Belle Bolen and Mary Pugh-Bolen (second wife of Alexander Bolen), is buried in the Crown Hill cemetery and there is approximately a 5 to 7 feet gap between the two markers which she could be buried. Alexander Bolen was the father of William Bolen that was married to Mary Anna Prater.

The above is on Mary Anna Prater Bolen or Marianna as listed in some cases. The name Anna was mentioned in her brother's obituary (John J. Prater).
