Joseph D. Allen Sr. passed away peacefully in San Diego on September 14, 2008.
Born October 24, 1938 to James and Isabel Allen in Indianola, Iowa. He was educated at Simpson College, where he received a BA degree in Business Administration. He later received his teaching credential. Joseph came to California in 1965 and lived in Calexico where he married the love of his life, Sylvia in 1967.
Joseph taught fourth grade at Jefferson School in Calexico for two years, then went on to teach eighth grade math at De Anza Jr. High for thirty years, retiring in 1997. While employed, he coached the Calexico High golf team for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Isabel Allen; brother, James Keith Allen and son, Joseph Allen.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Sylvia; son, Joseph D. Allen II and wife, Christina of El Centro; daughter, Jennifer Morales and husband Jerry of Imperial and son, Sean Allen of Calexico; four grandchildren, Joseph III, 13, Jacob 10, Derek 7 and Adam 2, all of El Centro; brothers, John H. Allen of Prescott Valley, AZ, William F. Allen and wife, Helen of Concord, CA and Roger M. Allen and wife, Joyce of Sun Lakes, AZ; sister-in-law, Lois Allen of Prescott Valley, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in Calexico.
Funeral Mass will be held September 30 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Calexico. The internment following at Mountain View Cemetery.
