Funeral services for Laura (Christensen) Jensen, 86, Rutland, N.D., were held on Monday, November 5, 2001 at Nordland Lutheran Church, Rutland. Reverend Kirk Wiltse officiated. Mrs. Jensen died on Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Laura Etta Delaney, daughter of William and Cora (Church) Delaney, was born on September 1, 1915 in Lidgerwood. As a youngster, she moved with her family to South Dakota where she attended school near Claire City.

On December 21, 1931, she married Fred Arnold Christensen. They lived on a farm in Rutland Township and later moved into Rutland. Fred died on May 4, 1958 and Laura continued to make her home in Rutland. She worked as a cook in the school lunch room for several years. She also worked at the Meyers Maternity Home in Rutland, and the Sargent Manor in Forman.

On December 22, 1978, she married Ruben Henry Jensen. They also lived in Rutland. Ruben died on May 12, 1990. Laura continued to make Rutland her home the rest of her life. Laura was a long time member of the Baptist Church in Rutland. She had been active in the Ladies Aide there. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Rutland. She also had been active in the Rutland Garden Club.

She is survived by eight sons, Carroll (Betty) Christensen, Ray, N.D., Donald (Shirley) Christensen, Gwinner, Charles (Sonja) Christensen, Wahpeton, Fred Christensen, Rutland, Steven (Helen) Christensen, Williston, Leo (Gay) Christensen, Omaha, Neb., Larry (Carolyn) Christensen, Wahpeton, John Christensen, Rutland; two daughters, Etta Lee, Rutland, and Nancy (Mike) Worthington, Fresno, Calif.; two sisters, Martha Christensen, Bismarck, and Corrine Panbecker, Pocahontas, Iowa; 35 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; an infant daughter; four grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers for the funeral were her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters and all of her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Music was provided by organist Doris Olson, soloist Michael Wyum and a vocal duet by Doris Olson and Kathleen Thomas.
Interment at Rutland Cemetery, Rutland.
