HOWARD HOLLINGSWORTH Howard Earl Hollingsworth, 82, of North Las Vegas, passed away at home Monday, May 17, 2010. He was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Preston, Idaho, to Austin Earl and Blanche Merrill Hollingsworth. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force at the end of World War II and served for one year. Howard married Wyla Jean Nelson June 27, 1951. They have seven children, Rebecca (deceased), Norman, Daniel, David, Cynthia, Theresa and Richard; as well as 20 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Howard graduated from Idaho State University in 1953, and received a masters degree from Arizona State University in 1962. He moved to Las Vegas in 1955, where he taught at Rancho High School for 11 years. He then became a principal for an additional 18 years. After retirement, he served on the Clark County School Board for 12 years. Because of his dedication to students and service for the community, Howard E. Hollingsworth Elementary School was named for him. Howard has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving two years on a full-time mission in England, as well as holding many leadership positions, including twice as bishop.
