Frances Lee Hodnett was born on March 22, 1920 to William Marvin Hodnett and Rachel Lee Hawkins Hodnett near Prosper, Texas in Denton County. She was the second child to the couple who would have 7 children together. Frances remembers being raised rather strictly. No baseball playing on Sunday, or cooling off at the swimming hole allowed. Frances met her husband to be, Vanis Knowles, while doing community work for a government program behind the Crazy Hotel in Mineral Wells, TX. The courthouse was being renovated so they were married by a judge at his house near the square in Palo Pinto, Texas on March 30, 1940. Lacking in finances as were most folks at the time, they had no lavish honeymoon, and after their simple ceremony went back to Mineral Wells and celebrated with a big hamburger. The couple lived with the Knowles family for some time. They had three children Wilburn Knowles, Edith Knowles Cauto, and Janice Knowles Busby. Frances was a stay at home mom. She loved to cook, garden, and listen to Country and Gospel Music. In 2007 Frances and Vanis health started to fail and they moved to Palo Pinto Nursing and Rehab Center. Frances helped care for Vanis until he passed away in October of 2011. She missed Vanis every day and would tell you he had gone to be with Jesus. Frances health declined that December, and so it was that less than three and a half months after losing her husband of seventy one years she went to join him.
