Laura Ruth Snyder Haley Irwin was born October 8, 1906, to Bert E. and Lillian M. (Doggett) Bray Snyder at West Chester, Iowa. She attended elementary school in Longmont, Colorado and the Gould School District. She attended Graybull High School and graduated from Basin High School. She attended the University of Wyoming and graduated in 1942.

She married Eddie Ray (Pat) Haley in June of 1923. Her only child, Dorothy, was born in July of 1926. Eddie Ray died in 1928.

Following the death of Pat Haley, Laura became a teacher. She first taught all eight grades at St. Joe. In the fall of 1931 she was employed by the Basin School District where she continued to teach for 33 years, also serving as principal. In 1985 the Basin Elementary School was renamed Laura Irwin Elementary in Laura's honor.

Laura married Verne Irwin in 1944,and they enjoyed many happy years together at their home in Basin.

Laura was an active member of NEA, WEA, Delta Kappa Gamma, PEO, South Big Horn Basin Community Hospital Auxiliary, and the United Methodist Church.

In 1994 Laura moved to the Rocky Mountain Manor in Powell, Wyoming, where she resided and served on the board until her death.

Laura was laid to rest in the Mount View Cemetery on May 22, 2000.
